SP Series

Every preview is one bar dry → two bars engaged → release and tail, rendered through the production engine with the preset’s canonical FX Library settings.

Lofi Repeat

SP-404-style lookback beat repeat: it grabs the eighth-note of audio already playing at the trigger point and loops it, while a Feedback LPF (default 0.35) darkens each pass through a tape-echo-style damping path. Listen for: After the dry bar, notice the looped eighth-note slice getting slightly duller on each repeat before the full loop snaps back for the final bar. Settings: Division 1/8 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Vinyl Sim

Full-wet vinyl simulation in the SP-404 style, running a heavy wear amount (0.8) with surface noise, pitch flutter, and saturation drive layered over the loop. Listen for: Listen for the crackle bed and slow pitch wobble that settle over the loop during the two engaged bars, then fall away as the clean signal returns. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Tape Warmth

Tape emulation blended at 55% wet: a gentle color pass that softens transients and adds mild tape saturation and low-end weight without obvious artifacts. Listen for: The change is subtle: after the dry bar, notice the drums rounding off and thickening slightly, then regaining their sharper edges in the final bar. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 55%

Iron Oxide

Tape saturation at 60% wet: a grittier, more compressed tape grind than Tape Warmth, with the band-limited top and bottom of a mid-speed tape pass. Listen for: After the dry bar, listen for the mids pushing forward with a dense tape grind while the extreme highs pull back, then the loop opening up again on release. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 60%

Dusty Vinyl

Worn-record chain stacking flutter, groove wear, and tape dust over tape color, plus a dedicated crackle layer (default 0.4, exposed as the Crackle control in FX Params), blended at 65% wet. Listen for: Notice the surface crackle and dusty blur that settle over the loop after the dry bar, with a faint pitch flutter underneath, all vanishing when the effect releases. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 65%

Pocket Lofi

Lo-fi crush at 85% wet: a pocket-sampler-style grind that drops the loop into grainy, aliased vintage-sampler territory. Listen for: After the dry bar, hear the whole loop collapse into a grainy, aliased pocket-sampler texture, then snap back to full fidelity over the final bar. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 85%

Bit Glitter

Bit crush at 65% wet: an aliasy digital grind with a glittery top-end sheen, loud enough that PreGain defaults to -6 dB. Listen for: Listen for the crunchy digital grit and the sparkly aliasing that lights up the hats while engaged, clearing out again after release. Settings: Division 1/8 · Quantize Off · Wet 65%

Derezzed

Crusher at 75% wet: sample-rate and bit-depth reduction with an analog-style softness, pulling the loop down into a dark, chunky digital crush; PreGain defaults to -6 dB. Listen for: After the dry bar, notice the loop turning dark and chunky as the sample rate drops, then the top end returning as the effect releases. Settings: Division 1/8 · Quantize Off · Wet 75%

Crunchy Wear

Vinyl groove wear at 70% wet: worn-groove mangling with a crunchier edge than Dusty Vinyl, roughening and blurring the top end like a played-to-death record. Listen for: Focus on the hats and snare after the dry bar: their edges blur into a crunchy, worn-groove rasp for two bars, then clean up on release. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 70%

Classic Dub Siren

Tone generator modeled on classic siren hardware: a 520 Hz square wave whose pitch a 2.2 Hz sine LFO swings across 10 semitones, producing the archetypal rise-and-fall reggae wail on top of the loop. Listen for: After the dry bar, the wailing siren rides over the loop for two bars (the loop itself keeps playing untouched), then the siren fades out over the release. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 60%

Air Raid

A triangle-wave siren that starts at 320 Hz and climbs 19 semitones over 5.5 seconds, with only a slow, shallow wobble on top: a WWII-style air-raid ramp whose sweep retriggers on every fire. Listen for: After the dry bar, follow the siren’s slow, continuous climb through the two engaged bars (it rises for nearly the whole hold) before dropping away on release. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 55%

Robot Beep

A 720 Hz square wave driven by a four-level stepped LFO at 6 Hz across 8 semitones: rapid robotic bleeps that jump between discrete pitches instead of gliding, with a near-instant 5 ms attack for stabby hits. Listen for: Notice how the pitch jumps in fast discrete steps rather than sweeping (a chattering robot voice over the loop), cutting off almost instantly at release. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 40%

Bomb Drop

A one-shot falling-bomb whistle: a pure 1400 Hz sine dives 42 semitones over 2.8 seconds each time the effect fires, with no LFO wobble on the way down. Listen for: After the dry bar, the whistle fires once and dives from its piercing start down to a low hum, then hangs there until the release fades it out. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 60%

Laser Zap

A 700 Hz saw wave driven by a ramp-down LFO at 7.5 Hz with 26 semitones of depth: a rapid-fire stream of descending laser zaps. Listen for: Listen for the machine-gun stream of downward zaps (about seven and a half per second) firing over the loop while engaged, then cutting off quickly at release. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 45%

Two-Tone Horn

A 440 Hz square wave with a square LFO alternating the pitch by 2 semitones at 0.75 Hz: the hi-lo two-tone of a European emergency horn. Listen for: After the dry bar, count the steady hi-lo alternation: the horn flips between its two close pitches at an even 0.75 Hz clip before fading on release. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 50%

Steppers Siren

A 400 Hz square wave modulated by a sine+octave LFO at 2.8 Hz across 8 semitones: the double-pumped, octave-inflected warble of a jungle steppers siren. Listen for: Listen for the double-dip character inside each wobble cycle (the octave component gives the warble its steppa bounce), riding the loop until the release. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 55%

Air Raid Echo

Feeds the Air Raid climbing siren (a 320 Hz triangle sweeping up 19 semitones) through a tape-delay and reverb chain, so the ramp smears into dubwise echoes; the tail defaults to Ring Out. Listen for: After the dry bar, notice the echo repeats trailing behind the climbing siren, and how the delay and reverb tail keeps decaying through the final bar after release. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 65%

Benidub Air Raid

Siren modeled on the Benidub DS01: a 520 Hz square wave swept 18 semitones by a 1.2 Hz sine LFO, run through the same tape-delay and reverb chain as Air Raid Echo for a deep, washing dub wail at 70% wet. Listen for: Listen for the wide, slow wail smearing into echo feedback over the two engaged bars, then the dub tail ringing out through the final bar after release. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 70%

Filter+Drive

SP-404MKII Filter+Drive port: a resonant high-pass filter with a drive stage, running at full wet. Cutoff defaults to 2 kHz with moderate resonance and drive, thinning the loop to a gritty, pushed top end. Listen for: After the dry bar the lows drop away, leaving a driven, slightly gritty top end for two bars before the full weight of the loop returns. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Resonator

SP-404MKII Resonator port: a resonant low-pass with the same Cutoff, Resonance, and Drive controls as Filter+Drive, running at 85% wet. It darkens the loop and adds a ringing, vowel-like peak at the cutoff. Listen for: For the two engaged bars the loop darkens and a resonant peak rings in the midrange, then the top end opens back up in the final bar. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 85%

Sync Delay

The cleanest of the SP-404MKII delay ports: 375 ms repeats at moderate feedback with bright repeat damping, editable via Time, Feedback, and Level. Tail defaults to Ring Out so repeats decay naturally after release. Listen for: Clean, distinct repeats stack behind the loop for two bars, then trail away through the final bar after release. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 55%

Isolator

SP-404MKII Isolator port on the three-band EQ engine with a deep-cut kill range: bipolar Low, Mid, and Hi knobs can remove a band entirely, DJ-mixer style, at full wet. Listen for: The canonical preview is neutral: all three bands sit flat, so the loop passes through unchanged; pull Low, Mid, or Hi down in the app to hear a band vanish. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Scatter

SP-404MKII Scatter port on the beat-repeat engine: it grabs and re-fires 1/16-note slices of the loop at full wet, with Ctrl 1–6 hardware knobs including a feedback low-pass that darkens successive repeats. Listen for: After the dry bar the groove fractures into stuttering sixteenth-note slices for two bars, then lands back on its feet for the final bar. Settings: Division 1/16 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Downer

SP-404MKII Downer port, a cyclic speed effect: it ramps playback speed down over each Rate period and snaps back, with a resonant filter tracked to the dive. Depth, Rate, Filter, and Resonance shape the fall; Pitch On holds pitch steady while the filter and level still cycle. Listen for: Each cycle the loop sags in pitch and dulls as the filter dives with it, snapping back upright at the top of the next cycle. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Ha-Dou

SP-404MKII Ha-Dou port riding the dub siren engine: an LFO-swept oscillator wail layered over the loop at 70% wet, with Ctrl 1–3 mapped to siren frequency, sweep rate, and depth. Listen for: A wavering siren tone rises over the loop for the two engaged bars, then fades out with the release. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 70%

Ko-Da-Ma

The echo-voiced SP-404MKII delay port: higher feedback and heavy damping make its repeats darker and longer-lived than Sync Delay, tumbling away rather than stacking cleanly. Time, Feedback, and Level are editable, with an eighth-note default division. Listen for: Dark, cascading echoes pile up behind the loop and keep tumbling through the final bar’s tail after release. Settings: Division 1/8 · Quantize Off · Wet 55%

Zan-Zou

SP-404MKII Zan-Zou port, a multi-tap echo: Mode selects 2TAP, 3TAP, or 4TAP (default 3TAP), taps land at successive intervals with alternate taps phase-inverted, and each successive tap arrives darker than the last. Listen for: Each hit fans out into a cluster of trailing afterimages (every repeat softer, darker, and hollower than the one before), decaying through the final bar. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 55%

To-Gu-Ro

SP-404MKII To-Gu-Ro port, a cyclic speed effect: it undulates playback speed sinusoidally with a resonant filter tracked to the motion. Depth and Rate set the wobble (tempo-synced by default), while Resonance, Flt Mod, and Amp Mod set how hard the filter and level ride it. Listen for: For the two engaged bars the whole loop wobbles in pitch while a resonant filter growls in time with the undulation, then settles back steady. Settings: Division 1/8 · Quantize Off · Wet 75%

SBF

SP-404MKII SBF port on the resonant high-pass engine, at full wet: Cutoff, Resonance, and Drive carve the loop down to an emphasized resonant band, with preview voicings placing the peak anywhere from 250 Hz to 3 kHz. Listen for: The loop thins to a narrow band that rings at the filter’s resonant peak for two bars, then opens back to full range in the final bar. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Stopper

SP-404MKII Stopper port on the tape-stop engine: a brake gesture that pitch-dives the loop to a true stop over the selected Range (default one bar), with highs rolling off naturally as it slows. Release Lever, Range, and Hold Previous FX sit alongside a Brake Curve knob that defaults to the constant-torque vinyl curve. Listen for: After the dry bar the record brakes to a dead stop (pitch and highs falling together), hangs silent, then playback returns on release into the final bar. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

TimeCtrlDly

The smooth SP-404MKII delay port: 375 ms default Time with moderate feedback and soft, dark repeat damping, editable via Time, Feedback, and Level. Its repeats blur mellowly rather than ringing bright. Listen for: Rounded, mellow repeats blur behind the loop instead of stacking as distinct echoes, fading through the final bar after release. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 55%

Super Filter

SP-404MKII Super Filter port: a cyclically swept filter with an extremely sharp two-stage slope. Cutoff, Resonance, Depth, and Rate shape the sweep, Flt Type picks LPF (default), BPF, or HPF, and Sync is on by default so the motion locks to tempo, sweeping symmetrically in octaves. Listen for: A steep, tempo-locked filter sweep breathes over the loop, closing and opening each cycle far more sharply than an ordinary filter, then releases in the last bar. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

WrmSaturator

SP-404MKII WrmSaturator port from the true drive family: antiderivative-antialiased saturation spanning up to 48 dB of drive, with independent ±24 dB Eq Low and Eq High shelves and a Level trim. Its default drive sits low for a warm, loudness-matched push, with PreGain at −3 dB for headroom. Listen for: The loop thickens and warms with subtle harmonic grit (density rather than obvious distortion), then relaxes back to the clean tone in the final bar. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 85%

303 VinylSim

SP-404MKII 303 VinylSim port on the vinyl engine, voiced with a compression-feel drive emphasis: hotter drive, moderate surface noise, and deeper wow/flutter than the 404 voicing. Wow/Flutter, Noise, and Drive are editable, with PreGain at −3 dB. Listen for: Crackle and a compressed, driven thickness settle over the loop with a noticeable pitch warble for two bars, then lift off cleanly. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

404 VinylSim

SP-404MKII 404 VinylSim port, the cleaner of the two vinyl voicings: more filtering and roughly half the drive of the 303 port, with the same Wow/Flutter, Noise, and Drive controls and PreGain at −3 dB. Listen for: The loop turns duller and dustier (light crackle and gentle warble as coloration rather than distortion) until the dry signal returns in the final bar. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Cassette Sim

SP-404MKII Cassette Sim port on a dedicated worn-cassette engine: wow/flutter warbles the pitch of the whole signal, Age dials in up to 60 years of high-end loss, and Tone, Hiss, Drive, and Catch add tape noise, saturation, and occasional tape-stretch pitch sags. Listen for: The loop goes duller and hissier with a seasick warble (catch the occasional pitch sag as the tape stretches) before the clean signal returns. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 90%

Lo-fi

SP-404MKII Lo-fi port: true digital degradation, not vinyl simulation. Its nine-step Lofi Type ladder pairs lower sample rates with lower bit depths, framed by a Pre Filt low-pass, a Tone tilt, a post-Cutoff low-pass, and a dry/wet Balance. Listen for: After the dry bar the loop turns crunchy and aliased (grainy digital fizz on the highs rather than analog warmth), then snaps back to full resolution. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 90%

Reverb

The standard SP-404MKII reverb port, voiced as a medium room with Time, Tone, and Level controls. Tail defaults to Ring Out so the wash keeps decaying after release. Listen for: A medium-room wash blooms around the loop for the two engaged bars, and the tail keeps ringing through the final bar after release. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 55%

Chorus

SP-404MKII Chorus port: a true dual-line BBD-style stereo chorus whose two LFOs run in anti-phase for a wide image, with a darkened wet path. Depth, Rate (a 0.33–2.30 s cycle), Balance, ±15 dB EQ Low/High shelves, and a Noise control for BBD hiss are all editable. Listen for: The loop blooms wider and slightly detuned (a slow, watery shimmer across the stereo field), then narrows back to tight focus after release. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 65%

JUNO Chorus

A port of the SP-404MKII’s JUNO Chorus, modeling the Roland JUNO-106 / JX chorus sections at the hardware’s fixed 50/50 mix. MODE defaults to JUNO 1, with a touch of BBD noise and anti-phase stereo modulation that widens without flanger coloration. Listen for: After the dry bar, the loop blooms wider and softly detuned (a warm stereo haze rather than a sweep), then narrows back to the dry image over the final bar. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 70%

Flanger

The SP-404MKII Flanger port: a resonant swept-comb flanger running a slow 0.5 Hz sweep with deep modulation and moderate feedback. Unlike the chorus and phaser ports, this one keeps the classic comb-filter color. Listen for: Listen for the slow jet-engine comb sweep climbing and falling through the loop’s harmonics during the two held bars before it settles back to dry. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 75%

Phaser

The SP-404MKII Phaser port: a true four-stage allpass-cascade phaser, not a flanger comb. Swept notches move at a moderate free-running RATE with mild RESONANCE, giving a soft swirl rather than a metallic ring. Listen for: Notice the hollow notches drifting smoothly through the mids while engaged (a swirl that never rings metallic), flattening back out in the last bar. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 70%

Wah

The SP-404MKII Wah port: a swept resonant band-pass whose center frequency wobbles cyclically. PEAK sits high for a narrow, quacky band, MANUAL parks the center in the upper mids, and a free-running RATE sweeps a moderate DEPTH around it. Listen for: After the dry bar, the loop narrows to a vowel-like band that rocks up and down (the classic quack) before the full spectrum returns on release. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Slicer

The SP-404MKII Slicer port, running the gate’s 16-step pattern mode on a 1/16 grid. PATTERN selects one of twelve curated grooves, DEPTH cuts off-steps completely by default, and LEGATO mode keeps the sounding steps connected, all tempo-synced. Listen for: When it engages, the continuous loop is diced into a strict 16th-note pattern with hard silences between hits, then flows uninterrupted again in the final bar. Settings: Division 1/16 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Tremolo/Pan

The SP-404MKII Tremolo/Pan port: a smooth cyclic LFO tremolo, not a hard duty-cycle gate. It defaults to TRE amplitude mode with a sine wave, moderate DEPTH, a free-running RATE, and click-free edges; TYPE switches to an equal-power PAN mode. Listen for: Listen for the level pulsing in a smooth sine ripple through the two held bars (a wave, not a chop), then steadying back to flat. Settings: Division 1/8 · Quantize Off · Wet 85%

Chromatic PS

The SP-404MKII’s Chromatic PS name routed to Meiji Sampler’s tape-stop pitch engine as a hold-to-bend gesture: engaging dives the pitch downward toward a stop, and releasing lets the loop recover through the envelope. Listen for: After the dry bar the whole loop bends downward, slowing and falling in pitch while held, then winds back up to full speed on release. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Hyper-Reso

The SP-404MKII Hyper-Reso port on a resonant low-pass voice: Cutoff parks at 2 kHz with moderate Resonance and a touch of Drive, darkening the loop while the filter’s peak sings on top; pushing Resonance takes it to the edge of oscillation. Listen for: Notice the top end vanish and a resonant peak begin to sing around the cutoff during the held bars, with the full brightness returning after release. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Ring Mod

The SP-404MKII Ring Mod port: a true ring modulator (input × carrier) with a 30 Hz–4 kHz FREQUENCY range. The default mid-range carrier with moderate SENS lets the input level push the carrier, producing clangorous, inharmonic metallic overtones. Listen for: The loop turns metallic and bell-like while engaged (pitches replaced by inharmonic clangs that track the groove’s dynamics) before the natural tone clears on release. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 70%

Crusher

The SP-404MKII Crusher port: true digital degradation, not vinyl simulation. A pre-FILTER low-pass feeds sample-rate reduction (higher RATE holds each sample longer, down to roughly 2 kHz), with BALANCE fully wet by default. Listen for: Listen for the loop collapsing into gritty, aliased crunch while held, highs smeared into digital hash, then snapping back to clean in the final bar. Settings: Division 1/8 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Overdrive

The SP-404MKII Overdrive port from the real drive family: antiderivative-antialiased shaping, loudness-matched at its default DRIVE, and voiced as a soft, warm push rather than a hard clip, with TONE, BALANCE, and LEVEL controls. Listen for: After the dry bar the loop thickens with rounded, warm saturation (more weight and hair than extra volume), then relaxes back to the clean groove. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 85%

Distortion

The SP-404MKII Distortion port: the harder sibling of Overdrive in the same antiderivative-antialiased drive family, with more aggressive clipping and a tight low end at the same DRIVE / TONE / BALANCE / LEVEL controls. Listen for: Notice the harder, edgier grind and controlled low end during the two held bars, releasing back to the untouched loop at the end. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 90%

Equalizer

The SP-404MKII Equalizer port: a real three-band EQ with a low shelf, mid bell, and high shelf at ±15 dB per band. The defaults apply a gentle smile curve: low and high shelves lifted slightly, mid left flat. Listen for: Listen for the subtle lift (fuller lows and airier highs with the mids untouched) while engaged, with the flatter dry balance returning in the last bar. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

Compressor

The SP-404MKII Compressor name routed to Meiji Sampler’s volume-duck dynamics path: engaging pulls the program down toward a fixed lower level (−9 dB at default, up to −18 dB via Ctrl 1) for a clamped, held-down squash. Listen for: After the dry bar, the whole loop sits down noticeably quieter and more contained while held, then lifts back to full level on release. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 75%

SX Reverb

The SP-404MKII’s SX Reverb port, voiced smaller, brighter, and shorter than the plain Reverb port: a small room with 0.6 decay and 10 ms pre-delay that behaves like a send-style throw, keeping the dry signal at unity. Listen for: Notice the tight, bright room blooming around each hit during the held bars, with the short tail ringing out just past the release. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 60%

SX Delay

The SP-404MKII SX Delay port: the SP-404SX delay voice with mid feedback (0.55) and mildly damped repeats, defaulting to a 375 ms delay time on a quarter-note grid. Listen for: After the dry bar, each hit trails clean mid-toned repeats that stack while held, then the echoes ring out and fade through the final bar. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 55%

Cloud Delay

The SP-404MKII Cloud Delay port: long 0.78 feedback with heavy damping (repeats darkened around 2.2 kHz) dissolves the echoes into a washy, cloudy blur rather than distinct repeats. Listen for: Listen for the repeats smearing into a dark ambient wash behind the loop while engaged, hanging as a soft cloud through the final bar’s tail. Settings: Division 1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 65%

Back Spin

The SP-404MKII Back Spin port wheels the record backward instead of playing a forward tape stop: it snapshots the audio that just played and spins it in reverse, accelerating from a standstill to a fast reverse spin. SPEED sets how hard the spin is; the spin-up and stop are click-free. Listen for: After the dry bar, the beat wheels backward, accelerating from a standstill into a fast reverse spin, then the groove drops back in cleanly on release. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 100%

DJFX Delay

The SP-404MKII DJFX Delay port: bright, punchy repeats (damped high at 9 kHz) with moderate 0.5 feedback on a 1/8 division, the cut-ready echo voice for transitions. Listen for: Notice the crisp, bright eighth-note repeats stacking behind the loop while held, then decaying quickly and cleanly over the last bar. Settings: Division 1/8 · Quantize Off · Wet 60%

Gt Amp Sim

The SP-404MKII’s Gt Amp Sim input effect: a two-stage amp voicing with a BASS/MIDDLE/TREBLE tone stack and a six-way AMP TYPE (JC, TWIN, BG, MATCH, MS, SLDN), defaulting to the Marshall-voiced MS with moderate DRIVE and the tone stack flat. Listen for: Listen for the loop taking on a mid-forward amp growl (speaker-cab color and grind rather than raw fuzz) before returning to the direct sound in the final bar. Settings: Division 1 Bar · Quantize Off · Wet 85%
