DJ FX
Every preview is one bar dry → two bars engaged → release and tail, rendered through the production engine with the preset’s canonical FX Library settings.DJFX Looper
Grid-locked beat repeat carrying the SP-404MK2’s DJFX Looper name, marked ★ in the FX Library as the recommended loop-repeat path. Triggered mid-cell it plays the rest of the current 1/16 grid cell live, then loops the completed cell from its grid start at full wet, with preview variants covering 1/2 through 1/64 captures. Listen for: After the dry bar, the sixteenth-note cell that was just playing locks into a rapid stutter loop for two bars, then the groove drops back in clean on release. Settings: Division1/16 · Quantize Current Grid · Wet 100%
Filter Sweep Up
Resonant high-pass sweep for builds: the cutoff climbs from 20 Hz to 2 kHz with a Q 1.3 peak on the same 6th-order Butterworth engine as the channel filters. Defaults to Tempo (beats) sync with Attack following the slot Grid and a 1/4 Release, so the rise and fall land on the beat. Listen for: After the dry bar, hear the kick and bass drain away upward until only thin resonant highs remain, then the low end rushes back over a quarter-note release. Settings: Division1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%
Filter Sweep Down
Resonant low-pass sweep for breakdowns: the cutoff falls from fully open down to 400 Hz with a Q 1.3 peak, darkening the program to a muffled rumble on the 6th-order Butterworth engine. Like Filter Sweep Up, it defaults to Tempo (beats) sync with a Grid Attack and 1/4 Release. Listen for: Notice the top end closing down after the dry bar: hats and air vanish first, leaving a dark 400 Hz thump that reopens to full brightness in the final bar. Settings: Division1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%
Build Gate
Rhythmic gate tuned for buildups: a 66% duty cycle at full depth chops the tail off every 1/16 cell, turning the program into a driving tremolo pulse. Defaults to Current Grid, locking the gate phase to the slot division rather than the press point; Offset shifts that phase. Listen for: After the dry bar, the loop turns into a pumping sixteenth-note pulse (each cell clipped to silence at its tail, locked to the grid) before smoothing back out. Settings: Division1/16 · Quantize Current Grid · Wet 100%
Half Gate
Even on/off rhythmic gate: a 50% duty cycle at full depth mutes the second half of every 1/8 cell, giving a square, metronomic chop. Defaults to Current Grid so the gate cycle stays phase-locked to the active grid. Listen for: Listen for the strict eighth-note on/off chop after the dry bar (half of every eighth note cut to dead silence) until the loop plays through whole again on release. Settings: Division1/8 · Quantize Current Grid · Wet 100%
DJ Isolator
Steep DJ-mixer-style isolator, voiced high on its sweep so engaging it slams the bass band shut while the top end passes. The slope is far steeper than a normal channel filter, so the kill is decisive rather than gradual. Listen for: After the dry bar, the kick and bass drop cleanly out, like the bass knob on a DJ isolator turned hard down, leaving the tops running until the low end snaps back on release. Settings: Division1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%
Cap Sweep
A slower, sharper low-pass sweep on the same 6th-order Butterworth engine as the channel filters, closing to 650 Hz with a Q 1.45 resonant peak, a nod to the switched-capacitor filters behind the S950-style design. Defaults to Tempo (beats) sync with a full 1 Bar Attack and Release sweep. Listen for: Follow the resonant peak as it takes a full bar to drag the brightness down to a dark 650 Hz, holds there, then spends the final bar sweeping back open. Settings: Division1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%
Gate Filter
The smoother, partially open gate: a 45% duty cycle at 0.85 depth ducks the off-steps of each 1/16 cell instead of muting them, so the groove pumps rather than hard-chops. Defaults to Current Grid with grid-locked gate phase. Listen for: After the dry bar, notice the sixteenth-note pumping where the gaps duck low but never go fully silent (a softer chop than Digital Gate) before the level steadies again. Settings: Division1/16 · Quantize Current Grid · Wet 100%
Digital Gate
The harder staccato chop: a 25% duty cycle at full depth passes only the first quarter of each 1/16 cell and mutes the rest, with a snappy 5 ms attack. Defaults to Current Grid so the chop pattern stays phase-locked to the active grid. Listen for: Hear the loop reduced to clipped sixteenth-note ticks with silence between them for two bars, then the full groove returns on release. Settings: Division1/16 · Quantize Current Grid · Wet 100%
Beat Surge
A compressor pushed hard and fully wet for an exaggerated pumping gesture: each hit ducks the mix and the level surges back up between beats. Suited to 1/8 grid work as a build or transition pump. Listen for: Notice the mix breathing after the dry bar: every drum hit sucks the level down and it swells back before the next, until the pumping relaxes over the final bar. Settings: Division1/8 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%
Block Limiter
Parallel limiter smash, blended at 45% wet with a −6 dB PreGain default to leave headroom before the slam. The limited signal thickens and loudens the groove while the dry path keeps some transient snap. Listen for: Hear the groove grow denser and louder as transients flatten into a compressed wall for two bars, then dynamics open back up to the dry feel in the final bar. Settings: Division1/4 · Quantize Off · Wet 45%
Digital Blackout
The hard-mute gesture: a 0 ms attack drops the master straight to its Target level of 0 for as long as it is held, with a short 40 ms release. Unlike Motor Kill’s pitch-diving deck brake, the cut is instant and pitch-free; Target level is editable in FX Params. Listen for: After the dry bar the master cuts to dead silence instantly, stays blacked out for two bars, and snaps back almost immediately on release. Settings: Division1/16 · Quantize Off · Wet 100%
Glitch Shift
A glitchy pitch shifter pushing the program up three semitones with splicey, tape-loop-style artifacts that stutter when the shifter loses its grip. Light feedback (0.22) trails short repeats, and the 75% default wet keeps the dry groove audible underneath. Listen for: Listen for the warbling pitched-up double smeared over the loop (glitchy splice stutters and short feedback trails), which decays away through the final bar. Settings: Division1/8 · Quantize Off · Wet 75%
Nasty Pitch
A gritty pitch shifter dragging the program down nearly an octave (−6 semitones of Note plus a further downward Bend) with old-school sample-based grit; the Grind control adds aliased dirt and light feedback smears the tail. The 65% default wet leaves the dry loop running above the growl. Listen for: After the dry bar, a gritty, aliased growl drags beneath the loop almost an octave down for two bars, then the low smear falls away and the groove comes back clean. Settings: Division1/8 · Quantize Off · Wet 65%
