Audio setup

Audio setup is the only technical hurdle you should solve before making your first beat.

Output device

Start with the system default output device unless you already know you need something else. In Settings, Meiji Sampler exposes:
  • audio host
  • output device
  • buffer size
  • sample rate
  • input device
  • input channel

Buffer size

Meiji Sampler supports these buffer sizes:
  • 64
  • 128
  • 256
  • 512
  • 1024
Recommended starting point:
  • 64 if you want the lowest possible latency and your machine can handle it
  • 256 if your machine is reasonably fast and you want tighter response
  • 512 if you want a safer default
If you hear crackles, underruns, or glitching, move up to 512 or 1024.

Sample rate

Available sample rates:
  • 44100 Hz
  • 48000 Hz
  • 88200 Hz
  • 96000 Hz
Recommended starting point:
  • 44100 Hz for most users
  • 48000 Hz if it matches the rest of your setup
Higher rates use more CPU. If playback is unstable, increase your buffer size before reaching for a lower sample rate.

Linux audio hosts

On Linux, the audio host can be:
  • Auto
  • ALSA
  • JACK
If Auto is unstable, try ALSA. If you already run a JACK setup, use JACK.

Input setup

If you want to sample external audio or use the recording feature:
  1. choose the correct input device in Settings
  2. select the input channel or stereo pair you want to record
  3. test monitoring before starting a real take
For file paths, see What gets installed.
